Is This Heaven?

Jai Ho! The 2008 story of an everyday guy from Mumbai turned TV Jackpot won an Oscar, and eight Academy Awards (including Best Picture) and has a rating of 91% on Rotten Tomatoes. Now, Slumdog Millionaire is finally getting the stage treatment (with location, casting and creatives to be announced).

Surprised it took this long? Well, it's sure to be worth the wait, as Slumdog Millionaire The Musical is set to be developed by Tony Award-winning producer Ken Davenport and will feature songs from the movie such as "Jai Ho" (famously covered by the Pussycat Dolls), alongside new music by A R Rahman, the film's original composer.

About Slumdog Millionaire

Slumdog Millionaire was the first of its kind, named by Wall Street Journal critic Joe Morgenstern as "the film world's first globalized masterpiece," for its ability to bridge cultures and take a story of bleak hardship and turn it into hope and opportunity. Directed by Danny Boyle, with an acclaimed screenplay by Simon Beaufoy and was inspired by Vikas Swarup's novel Q & A.

It won the most Academy Awards for any picture in 2008 and was selected as one of the 30 Most Significant Independent Films of the last 30 years by the Independent Film & Television Alliance, in 2010, just two years after it was released. The numbers speak for themselves, as to date the film has grossed $378.4 million against a budget of $15 million.

Set in the streets of Mumbai, Slumdog Millionaire follows brothers Jamal and Salim Malik, who grow up in extreme poverty but take radically different paths. Salim pursues a life of crime, while Jamal embarks on a surprising journey to win love and fortune on "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?".
